liberal labourist LPA morass
Dear Adam,
Your critique today on the approach to the LPA Party is based it seems
on the illusion that the LPA and co. are a healthy left motion coming out
of the actual class struggle and enlivening minorities of militant ranks from
below.
If you actually fall for this, you are deluding yourself (and others) . This is
a mirage
promoted by career union job seeking applicants and others.
LPA and co. are a wing of slick left-posturuing reformist labor hacks
who are actually union staff applicants & left-Democrats trying to manuever
for stronger positionisng so as to shame the Democrats back to the the hacks
gloried "Rooseveltian" tradition. But any honest worker partisan know pedding
this to workers TODAY is very patently dishonest and hide s the real capital
labor relation in a period of declining accumulation cycle and falling rate of
profit, and capital realignment in competition --hence the incresed tempo of
savage assaults on workers livlihoods in many lands by capital ,even in the
imperialist centers, by ALL major wings of capital..
We saw what the leftists "Rooseveltian" church led to in the 30s-40s , it was
tragedy for workers then and it would be farce and tragedy LPA style today.
Your parameters for organizing in the motion seem quite narrow in terms of work
>from the base in the ranks. We are not dealing with workers getting an
"education" by dogmatically having to pass through all levels of refomist
schooling
and then pass the "University of Hard Knocks"(UHK).. Yes many workers do go
through this on theroad to combativity and the making of revolutionaries,
But marxists do not serve as "counselors" to the reformist LPA or UK-SLP to
"enroll" workers into these banana peels in the road thinking that if the class
skins itself
up enough or bloodies itself, they just move onward to socialist struggle.
When more mass motion picks up here, it is possible a bonified labor party
albeit
reformist might be built out of that motion . THen communists would have to
reappraise their tactical approach to work in this terrain so as not to be
cutoff from the good forces that one will find in the ranks. But still it will
not be to foster illusions
in left-posturing reformists, as your approach would do, but to attempt to
spread the mass actions and militant mass groupings from this core of fighters
paving the road to a revolutionary movement. Admittedly , all this period will
be daunting
and treachererous as well as being able to gain some victories.
Again your asumptions seem a bit wooden and mechanistic, not dialectical,
Why can't increased anger and organized struggles widening in the base of the
class lead to new politics as well as NEW INDUSTRIAL groups , a la mass
assemblies (without capitalists) , worker comittees in the workshops and
offices, etc, with new fighting groups , not seen in decades, also coming to
the fore??.
Of course, it would mean less promotion of Mechanistic - semi-mathematical
formalism , a la Trotsky, Stalin, etc or the "pure first 4 Congresses of the
Comintern" Sounds today like the Bible quoting Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
types!!!
Let the rising non-affiliated workers OWN mass activity have some breadth! You
will probably find THEY at that stage have quite a few things to teach US about
the
class struggles and fighting for a new society!
But we do have a key political role to play in forging that kind of mass
struggle movement and exposing reformists and careerists in the
movements and if you look at this LPA group as a process, their track
record of these mainly 40ish-50ish AFL concessions bureaucrats pulling the
strings, this is not something marxists will want to sow ANY ilusions in!
