Re: LABOR PARTY (fwd)

I think you're all missing point. LPA will continue with or without
socialists of any particular stripe. Whether of not it the participating
unions support Clinton (The ILWU and Teamsters have not endoresed
Clinton, yet) is not so relevant as the dynamic of what this movement
can repesent. It has given adovcates of breaking the working class from
the clutches of the Democrats the FIRST large opening of this kind in
decades, perhaps ever. Walter's LRP, continuing the sectarian stance of
Maoists and other ultra-left politcial formations pose NO ALTERNATIVE
but their own little groups, forever outside the discussion of workers
who are for ONCE qustioning through their involvement in the LP the way
politics have been in this country sinve forever. You pose NOTHING as
an alternative to politics as usual because you have no audiance
what-so-ever.

The LP is a process that for once gives a mass hearing to class
fighters who want to change things. Those advocating not getting
involved in the Labor Party movement I say fine: NOTHING changes
because you don't participate since you can't say or reach anyone.

There is no doubt as to reformist nature of the union officials involved.
The fact that UE and ILWU were communist party lead in the past really
nothing these days (The CP lead the biggest sell outs of these unions
during WWII then they all capitulated to the no-strike pledge and sub
standard contracts, but that's another story). The point is that
workers are listening to the LP idea. This is an advance. "Building a
Rvolutionary workers party" means nothing if workers don'tlisten to
you. You will be reduced to the Internet as your only audiance.

Later,
David Walters
Golden Gate Chapter of LPA
