16 ANNIVERSARYD OF THE PEOPLE'S WAR IN PERU IN LONDON - MAY 17, 1996
Information from Committee Sol Peru - London
May 17
Communists and democratic people in London celebrated today in a private
function attended by foremost friends of the People's War and the
representatives of the proletaratian of Iran, Greece, Peru, Great Britain,
Colombia, Italy, France, Poland, Holland, Spain, the XVI Anniversary of the
Initiation of the People's War in Peru who resoved to express their most
fervent congratulations to the proletariat and people of Peru, to the
Communist Party of Peru and to its Gonzalo Thought Central Committee, to the
People's Liberation Army and to the Front of People's Liberation, leaders
and protagonists of the Liberation War of the Peruvian people.
Early in the afternoon Committee Sol Peru's friends gathered and took part
in the preparations for the people's festival planned for the evening.
At 10:30 pm, facing a podium decorated with red flags with the hammer and
sickle, the central act of the event took place and the ceremony began with
a choir of the battle hymn of the proletariat, "The Internationale", which
was sang enthusiatically and with clenched fist on high by the attendance.
At the closing of the song and after the three tiered applause, a Peruvian
comrade from the MPP representing the Communist Party of Peru gave the
salutes according to the style of the PCP, hailing the Peruvian and world
revolutions, the Communist Party of Peru, Chairman Gonzalo and the Central
Committtee, the Peruvian People's Movement (MPP) and the initiative of the
editors of El Diario Internacional and the Sol Peru Committees of Belgium
and London in calling for a WORLD MOBILISATION COMMISSION in Defence of the
People's War in Peru, the Life of Chairman Gonzalo, the proletarian ideology
in all its stages of development, principally Maoism, underlining too the
role of this commission in promoting the proletariat's participation in
incarnating this ideology upon the masses of the world and impressing this
leadership upon their world revolution.
Later on the spokesman for Commitee Sol Peru made the central presentation.
He expounded and synthesed on the meaning of the Peruvian revolution linking
it to the class struggle of the working people of the whole world, to
proletarian internationalism, to the development of the proletarian
ideology, emphasising the central role of Marxism-Leninism-Maoism,
principally Maoism, as the necessary commnad and guide of the world revolution.
Briefly, our comrade made a synthesis of the development of 16 years of the
People's War, underlining the advances of the Peruvian revolution under the
wise leadership of Chairman Gonzalo. He also stressed the importance that
the courageous and firm leader of the PCP and of the revolution in Peru has
for the world revolution and for the development and grounding of Maoism.
He pointed out the crucial need of the class to support the PCP and its
revolutionary line in order to serve the interests of the international
proletariat.
At the end of the speech of the Spokesman for Sol Peru, the London skyline
was pierced by a 16 high altitude luminous rockets climaxing in a gigantic
triple explosion of glittering and multicolour stars which illuminated the
night sky at a very high altitude. Finally a ground buried Roman articifice
was lit which brought out of the earth onto the sky a shower of flowers and
shining red stars symbolizing the light of Gonzalo Thought shining from the
dungeons in which fascist tyranny has buried alive the great communist leader.
During the meeting the salutation from the Association of Communists Workers
in Britain which we have already published elsewhere was read together with
the communiques from the Belgium Sol Peru Committeee (which we shall publish
shortly) as well as the messages of congratulations from many other
revolutionary organizations and friends acroos the world.
This heartfelt and militant ceremony was crowned with the performance of
revolutionary songs from many countries of the world. Particularly noticed
were the songs of the People's War, the Maoist song "The East is Red", and
the all time favourites of the International Communist Movement.
The strains of the battlesong of the anti-fascist guerillas, the beautiful
Italian partisan melodies of "Bella Ciao", the hymn of the French partisans
("Les Partisans"), the "Varsovienne", the "Bandera Roja" which is also the
music of the hymn of the PCP, the song from the International Brigades, "Los
Cuatro Generales", the song "Le Front des Travaillieurs", "Solidarite", "Le
Chant des Martyrs" (a tribute to the Communard Martyrs,) "Hardi camarades",
The meeting was closed with "L'APEL DU KOMINTERN" (The Call of the
Commintern) sang specially in honour and salutation for the CALL FOR A WORLD
MOBILISATION COMMISSION in defence of the Peruvian and world revolution and
the interests and revolutionary principles of the proletariat.
At the closing down ceremony, comrade Apel, a working woman from Spain,
volunteered the following words as her personal homage to the revolution and
to her class sisters in Peru:
"Words spoken with deep felt sentiments are not ordinary words. These are
words coming out from the heart. I want to say that the struggle of a
people for freedom is a task for each and everyone of us. At present, since
we are working people, we cannot dedicate as much time to this task as we
would like to do".
"We the working women are firmly in favour of all peoples who fight against
exploitation and poverty which is a system that only benefits a handful of
exploiters while the so called "human rights" are trampled underfoot to
intinmidate the masses. That is why today, I feel a universal feeling that
occassions such as today we should celebrate and make our own".
