Re: Higher wages: bad for Wall Street, good for Main Street
Carnell,
New Jersey is a physically small, but economically large and
diverse state. We are the most densely populated state in the union, home
of Edison, Einstein, and the Sugar Hill Gang; birthplace of Grover
Cleveland, Jack Nicholson, and The Chairman of the Board. We are where
Washington was headed when he crossed the Delaware.
Across the Delaware, our less generous sister state Pennsylvania
did not raise the minimum wage, and no difference in unemployment or
prosperity was found between our two communities. So, your crocodile
tears for those, whose yearning to work for $4.25 an hour instead of $5.15
met deaf ears in Trenton, need no longer fall. I'm sure the poor
appreciate you as a defender of their right to work for poverty wages and
to sell their organs. I think you should continue your campaign of
neo-libertarian anti-charity among the poor. I have in mind a Camden
housing project where you might appeal to those making an ill-conceived
$1800 more a year. Go to them and appeal with your perfect logic that
they should take a pay cut in order to benefit their fellow unfortunates.
My advice to you is to read Edgar Allen Poe's "The Masque of the Red
Death."
peace
