Mr. Proyect,

I believe that the Costa Rican government essentially leased a large
portion of its rain forest to Merck pharmaceuticals, giving Merck exclusive
rights to anything of value found there. This was done to get money to pay
off farmers, ranchers and loggers who would have cut it down.
