Louis: This involves questions that get to the very heart of Marxism's
difficulties in traditional societies, including Nicaragua. The most
glaring example of what not to do is Afghanistan. While the Kabul
government might have had the best of intentions in breaking down the
oppressive social relations that existed in the countryside, its
bureaucratic methods alienated the very people whose lives they were
trying to improve.
