Re: WJ WILSON
Rakesh is to be commended for posting a powerful critique of Wilson,
whose ideas are helping the ruling class deepen the attack on the black
community.
Rakesh has also continuously supplied the list with extremely useful reviews
of books he is reading that he thinks others would find interesting.
Rather than post bitter recriminations against those who you disagree
with on the left, why not follow Rakesh's example and take some of that
energy and invest into something positive? It is the capitalist ruling class
that is destroying the world, not other leftists whose ideas you find odious.
Marxism is only partially a critique of "deviations" within
Marxism, such as Lenin's attacks on Kautsky's chauvinism after the
outbreak of WWI. It is also a positive analysis of significant
trends in society or history. I have always been inspired by the work of
Marxist historians such as E.H. Carr or Isaac Deutscher and try to follow their
example in my own amateurish way when I write, for example, about
Nicaragua in the 1980s.
The goal of Marxism is to achieve socialism. Socialism will not be
achieved simply by attacking false ideas on the far left.
