Neil,
Okay so there are naughty bourgeoisie in the labor movement, AND?
Who didn't know that and so what? Unions oppose capital by their logic. If
that logic has been twisted, should we be surprised?
No Marxist movement without groups that oppose the power of specific
capitalists for the benefit of those who work on their capital is reasonable.
Unions are those groups. What other practical issues do you propose to
organize people around? Do you think that they will just riot in the strets
in celebration of some vague notion of installing a "dictatorship of the
proletariat"?
Unions don't strike together because they don't have the power to.
They have to help their membership put bread on the table first. Marxism has
to inform union action, that is true. Insurgency into unions will doubtless
be necessary. "Smashing" unions, is the cry of childish frustration. The
unions and the communities do the work, the parties hold them together. What
could be more reasonable or effective?
