Hugh on M1 and M2
Hi Hugh,
My hunch is not to push this at the moment. I hope this comes as
a friendly comment. Certainly I have been glad to meet you on
this l'st as someone from a different marxist tradition, but
willing to argue things out thoughtfully and optimistically.
The inner workings of Spoons are mysterious, because in a sense there
are no inner workings except IMO good will. Any attempt to ask
for rules and guidelines will be met with a response that you may
find baffling. If really necessary, action will be taken according to
a "passion" index, which is a sort of sounding of the balance of
commitment versus the perceived grief resulting from any action.
So people act individually but very much weighing up what others
might feel.
It is most unlikely that anyone will respond to your request with a
lot of fair rules about how M1 and M2 will interrelate. Clearly we have a
most interesting system, a sort of binary star, with the relative size
of the two able to fluctuate. Clearly some people will want to know
what is going on on the other l'st from time to time.
A lot of people will also just want to get on with it. Refugees on M2
>from M1 will want to forget about M1 for a time, and some may be
a bit annoyed, I guess, at you reminding them. For my own part I have
felt frustrated that people who wanted the PCP to be expelled
or to go off to a separate l'st have instead stayed around to
flame. But you cannot tell anybody what to do on M1 anyway - well you
can but they have only their self interest as a reason to listen.
I think the fair point on which to decide your participation on M1 and M2
is just perhaps a courtesy of following threads reasonably coherently.
Anyway subjects and themes keep on recycling.
I suggest you wait till six other people have peered over the fence
between M1 and M2, and cross fertilized as I hope they will.
Cross fertilization while straddling a fence. Sounds painful.
I think I had better stop mixing my metaphors.
Take care,
Chris B,
London.
