I am reposting the following mail from a British comrade as it seems rather
interesting.
Wed, 21 Feb 1996 19:49:01
From: Derek McMillan <derek@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
To Will Brown
Greetings. I am member 322 of the Socialist Labour
Party and a reader and supporter of Militant. Far from
posing a threat to Militant, the creation of a Socialist
Labour Party was welcomed by Militant from the first.
Militant Labour members worked enthusiastically for the
SLP candidate in the Hemsworth by-election and the two
organisations have no plans to run candidates against each
other.
The constitution of the SLP is restrictive and
bureaucratic but workers will be mainly concerned with
policy which should provide a breath of fresh air after
the Labour Party.
The SLP is a realisation that the Labour Party has
passed over definitively to the dark side - it is a
child's model or a slave's flattery of the Democratic Party
in the USA. The mere name "Labour" is simply an historical
oddity like the Jamaican Labour Party which is NOT REMOTELY
SOCIALIST.
