Barkley,

I just sent you the same note, which I thought you did not receive. I and
Paul Zarembka are having some debate on labor-power, and I just finished my
responce to some of his questions. About Kerala, I'm so sorry I have no
news. This time arround, Kerala was simply not talked about much. The Indian
CPM which has been in power in west bengal and periodically in Kerala, have
done some good work but cannot be considered revolutionary party--for that
matter there is no revolutionary party in India at this time. The CPM has
done some good work on land reform, but they have not been able to solve the
basic question of poverty in bengal, and so in Kerala. But Kerala's
performance in general has been much better. But in India things change from
state to state and it may not be the political party in power that is
responsible. For example Gujarat, which is a total capitalist state ruled by
either congress or now BJP (the hindu nationalist party) has much less
poverty and better welfare state than west bengal. So you get the picture.
Things are always complicated in India. will keep in touch. situation here
is simply grim and I have to pull all my energy for a long and gallant
struggle against Stalinism! Thanks for your support. I hope to see you in
December, if I manage to go to USA for a couple of conferences, one being
the RETHINKING MARXISM conference. My best to you and your family, ajit
