Mr. Mayer,
I've never heard of Proudhon. What is wrong with my thoughts about
money in your view?
As for the rest, I have come to the conclusion that labor is wasting
its time with the democrats - unless there is a specific issue at stake in a
particular campaign. Labor should develop its own platform and judge
candidates on it the way th Christian right does. You don't get anywhere with
blanket or personal endorsements these days. The first target of labor
should be the press. Labor should have a ready, intelligent commentary that
it presses on to the media on every issue remotely connected with labor.
U.N.I.T.E. is doing some of this with their chief economist - who is becoming
the guy that everyone turns to for the opposition view on economic issues.
Unions have to realize that it will be a lot easier to organize if they make
a national case, and change the media climate.
As for the "betters" remark, I was implying that the right since
Reagan has done a far better job recruiting the working class than the left.
I heard that Buchanan is doing very well with working class men in
particular. That is his demographic base of support.
peace
