Saddam Hussein and "Enemy of my enemy... etc

I'm picking one small item out of Jerry's posting on slanders etc., that
in which he says the argument that "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" has
been applied to Saddam Hussein.

This seems balderdash: I do not know of anyone I have met in person or
in print who had much good to say of Hussein--unless Jerry means that anyone
who opposed the U.S. invasion of the Mideast (the so-called Gulf War) was
thereby committed to in some way or other treat Hussein as a friend.

But that is absurd. The argument that I myself rely on in all
anti-interventionist struggles and debates is that summarized by Harry
Magdoff: The best thing the U.S. can do for the rest of the world is to stay
out of it. (He said it much more neatly, but I have no time now to look
up the quote.) Perhaps I misunderstand Jerry on this.
