Re: FYI..............................

In regards to the Rethinking Marxism conference posting, this snippet
deserves comment:

>The global restructuring of social relations now taking place (which some
>call a new offensive of "capital"), and the accompanying new crises and
>forms of resistance that, in a more or less systemic way, affect the
>lives of people the world over, require a strategy of cooperative
>dialogue between and among diverse Marxian and other communities of
>struggle.

Those "some" who understand "the global restructuring of social
relations" as in fact a new offensive of capital are known as
revolutionary Marxists, in sharp contrast to the intellectual vigilantes
of capital, whose sole interest in "the contemporary discourses of
Marxism" is to monitor the process of the reconstruction of the working
class, revolutionary, and Marxist movements, in order to "upload" to
their masters a more perfect image of the contemporary reality, and thus
assist the bourgeoisie in the class struggle.

A good, consistent critique of the trends represented by Rethinking
Marxism, Richard Wolff, et al, is to be found in the first issue of a new
biquarterly journal, "Transformation (Marxist Boundary Work in Theory,
Economics, Politics and Culture)", in an article, "Post-ality: The
(Dis)Simulations of Cyber-Capitalism", by Mas'ud Zavarzadeh, as well as
several other articles. Has anyone checked this one out, any comments?

Perhaps some "counter-vigilanteism" is in order. Will anyone be attending
this conference who could report back on what the conferees had to say on
the recent strikes in France, for example?
