Re:Early CP Memories

Yes, Dan, I do remember Mike Anderson. He was member of the Carpenters
union, though a different local. His father, from what I understand, used to
be the local business agent. He also delivered the Daily Worker on Saturdays
in our town (this was long before I was born). "Midnight Star", about whom
you specifically inquired, was a five-gaited American Saddle Horse that we
kept on our dairy farm. He was there to run dogs out of the field when they
would travel in packs to attack the livestock. He also drove out trespassers
(hunters, etc) by circling wide, turning suddenly, and heading right for
them. He would usually try simply to scare them, but, whenever he came
across lawyers, real estate agents or social democrats, he would rear up on
his back legs and come crashing down, trying to crush them with his hooves.
I remember there was one mangy-looking, imporverished-looking hound (I think
his name was Carl). He was a sneaky bastard; always trying to curry favor
wih the area farmers (while showing his teeth to the main herd when no one
was looking). Midnight Star caught him one night down near Potters' Creek.
I can tell you, the next morning there was fur and dog-shit everywhere and
no more was heard from Mr. Carl (known locally as "Shiny") in this world.
Anyway, I hope this jogs your memory about some of the early comrades. This
was of course long before I came into the Party in 1986.
