Leo Casey's charge that "Sendero Luminoso" commits "mass" and "methodical"
murders is one that is bandied about ad nauseum.  I consider it fantastically
untrue, as I do his concomitant and facile statement about the PCP being
"kissing cousins" to Pol Pot.  Where does Mr. Casy get his information?  In
all probability, from the same newspapers that routinely reprint, without
comment, the views of the U.S. State Department and/or various
corporate-sponsored foreign policy specialists.  Or perhaps, Mr. Casey is one
of those innumerable souls who has visited one of the ubiquitous "refugee
camps" where the "victims" of "Sendero" receive tender loving care from U.S.
sponsored "Non-Governmental Organizations."  In any event, Mr. Casey, please,
at the very least,  treat us to something more than old shibboleths when
writing about Peru.  Even your colleagues at Rand and Exxon Oil are beginning
to produce studies that put your specious illusions to shame.
