CLR James book

Today's Village Voice (1/31/96) has a review of 2 new books:

1) Race Rebels: Culture, Politics and the Black Working Class by Robin Kelly

2) CLR James and Revolutionary Marxism: Selected Writings of CLR James,
1939-1949, edited by Scott McLemee and Paul LeBlanc

I expect the James book to be a real killer. LeBlanc is an ex-SWPer who
wrote a terrific book on Lenin. His book and Noel Harding's are
indispensable for understanding the politics of Bolshevism. McLemee, who
is on this l*st, is also an ex-Trotskyite but I think he probably
belonged to some other group. (I'm not sure which one but it might have
been the Proletarian Vanguard Organization of New Jersey (Communist
Tendency). Anyhow, Scott is a smart feller and wrote a heckuva review of a
book on art in the early years of the Soviet Union. recently for the
Nation magazine (I'll have more to say on his review and how it relates to
market socialism in a couple of days--stay tuned.)
