This is a difficult question for many on the left, I suspect, whether to
limit our work to electoral struggles in the legal arena and end up with the
likes of Jackson, Sanders, Wellstone, etc., who are moving further to the
right every day (Sanders was a big proponent of Clinton's crime bill, etc.),
a form of "parliamentary cretinism," so to speak.  They play the same role as
does the IU and its allied groups in Peru; to dull the discontent of the
masses, turn it toward "safe", non-threatening activities, which,
simultaneously helps them to line their own pockets (Jackson, for example,
took some of the money extorted from both the poor and corporations like Nike
to send his own children to an exclusive all white private school near
Paxton, Massachusetts,  his opportunistic alliance with the racist racketeer
Farrakhan, etc.).  In Peru, the IU goes a step further and acts as police
agents of the Fujimori regime. maintaining a vast network of police
informers, organizing "self-defense" groups (that act as wheel-men for the
death squads, etc).  They are, however, basically the same type as the
luminaries heretofore referred to; parasites who fatten themselves and their
labor allies off the sufferings of the people.
