Louis: Interesting analysis from Adam. Especially the comparison between
1929 and 1987. However, to describe capitalism as in "deep crisis"
today is just not accurate.

There were depressions throughout the 1880's and 1890's. There was also
capitalist expansion. The socialist parties grew, and so did the Ku Klux
Klan. (I, of course, am talking about US history which I have some
familiarity with.)

This was a time of sharp class contradiction. But it was not "five to
eleven".

A period of deep crisis opened up with the onset of WWI and the Great
Depression. Millions dead and vast unemployment can really push the
envelope, so to speak.

We could be facing a period of deepening capitalist crisis, but for the
time being, at least in the United States, the capitalist class is in the
driver's seat and has no need to resort to paramilitary ultraright
formations to vanquish proletarian revolution. Ford Motor Company is for
Clinton or Dole, not Mark from Michigan.
