Re: Shining Path, Dmitrov and...

Louis, it is you who are sounding a little arcane with this stale "third
period" debate. The PCP combats those who combat (actively) the revolution.
They have many allies among various groups in Peru (as the recent elections
in Villa Salvador, one of Lima's major slums, readily attests). They work
with as many groups as they can in a cruelly oppressive environment (merely
expressing sympathy for the goals of the revolution can earn you a life
sentence for being "an apologist for terrorism.") An open united front in
Peru (open enough to convince North American leftists) would spell suicide
for the participants. Louis, the IU in Peru is not the SPD. The IU actually
helped Fujimori to power by jumping off the sinking ship of the Vargas LLosa
campaign and, together with the catholic church, hooking up with Fujimori
instead. In any event, the PCP targets only those who actively organize
against the subversion (as they sometimes call the revolution), who inform to
the police and the death squads, who organize civilian militias, etc., etc.,
Not the sort of people I'd join up with in any "united front." I'm amazed
at the number of people on this list who don't seem to know their ass from a
hole in the ground about Peru. What mass murders or tortures are you talking
about? Give me a date or a news report or something so that I am able to
respond. Something that goes beyond mere rhetoric or confirming one's
visceral prejudices.
