Re: Shining Path, Dmitrov and...

Louis, thank you for your high-toned reply. Neither I nor the PCP ("Shining
Path" in your lingo) attack or criticize the so-called " legal left" in Peru
simply for being. Those being singled out are precisely those who
collaborate with the government (which is a veritable "Murder, Inc." with
state power) in fingering suspected communists for arrest, torture, and
murder. Those (like their counterparts in the American AFL-CIO) whose hands
are dripping with the blood of revoutlionaries, who organize the rondas
(cviilian militias), who aid in the "disappearance" of those (like the
students La Cantuta) who do not toe the official line on the revolution. The
leaders of the "legal left" (Pease, Bernales, etc.) are part and parcel of
the rotten Peruvian state. They are increasingly despised by the people (in
the last farcical "election" in April, 1995, IU received less than 0.5% of
the valid votes. Once crowded on Fujimori's bandwagon in 1990, they have
since become the dispenser of toilet paper to the reformist left. They play
the same role in Peru that Jesse Jackson, Wellstone, Sanders, et al play in
American politics; cheap frauds who parlay 'left" politics into comfortable
careers for themselves, along with the union misleadership, etc., while the
hundreds of thousands of jobs are cut, people thrown out on the street, etc.
The PCP, whatever, their faults, stand to totally demolish the fetid
Peruvian state. The "united left," in its many incarnations, seeks within
that same state the peace of the cemetaries.
