Re: A Question to Members of the CPUSA II

Okay, just this: what is exactly the "previous Party regime"? The people we
have in leadership now? Before? When? What exactly is a Party "regime"? It
might be nice to know what this thing is. There are some major misconceptions
about the CPUSA contained herein. Firstly, the whole "undemocratic" thing.
For all the talk about Gus Hall's "dictatorship" and "restrictions", I only
hear this from people who are not in the Party. Not from members. When the
Party makes a mistake, it *does* admit it. Comradely criticism and
self-criticism. Right now, the CPUSA is in a preconvention period, which can
without reservations on your part I'm sure be called a very democratic
process. The Party has invited unionists and activists, Party and non-Party
to take part. The new stage in class and socialist consciousness and the new
phase in the Party's history, a time of growth unseen since the 1930's ahs
led to wide-ranging broad-based discussions on just about anyhing relating to
the Party's work. If you looked objectively at the situation this is what you
would see in the Party, not a caricature of days gone by. As for your
questions, here goes my short answers:
1. obviously we do.
2. This policy follows closely just what is going on in China and therefore
supports or does not support measures taken there.
3. Of course we support Castro, I personally have seen no position recently
on MRTA and IU.
4. see question 1.
5. We supported the meeting. There is not an international center developing
there, just more trade and closer relations. of course we are glad to see
that.
6. well, yes we supported them because we like to see closer relations
between socialist countries.
7. We do not endorse the idea of international center. It has been rejected
since the dissolution of the Comintern. Closer collaboration, solidarity,
unity of course, but not a new "international" as such.
8. Many ex-CoCers have rejoined. There was in July 1993 a Unity Campaighn
directed at CoCers and others. Many responded and did rejoin. We do not have
factions and tendencies in our Party. They are disruptive. For proof, see
circumstance of formation of said CoC.
Comradely, Charlotte
