Mr. Cockshott,
As a bringer of peace and a servant of compassion, I can salve your
doubts on mystification, and income inequality. Not surprisingly, I will
invoke the first two, of the four truths.
Suffering, the proletariat - on the road to enlightenment - must
first recognize that they are indeed suffering. Right now, their souls are
tormented, but they have yet to embrace the enormity of their wretchedness.
They cling, as you rightly point out, to mystic notions of meritocracy to
explain away their privation. How will this bubble be burst? Point out to
them the fact of capitalists earning money for nothing - no work, just
speculation. Then reinforce their egos, suggesting to them that they are
"worth" more. The rest follows even under the crushing weight of
meritocratic logic. They wrest away ownership, and reward themselves.
Nothingness - to accept the nature of things as they are. Be the
ball, breathe, listen to the sound of one hand pulling the levers of the
great machines and one flipping the pages of the accounting ledger. Workers
will quickly realize that the accomplishments of the ego are ephemeral,
chimerical, in the vast cosmos of the market. Let the capitalists pay people
to wear suits! socialism is work and T.C.O.B..
Now wage inequality, as I wrote Justin Schwartz, is a real problem
and a drawback. The broad-based nature of the organizations that will rob
capitalist firms of profitability, and the utterances of sages atop the rocky
hills and heather of Scotland, will do the rest.
Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to turn the third
eye of the analytical mind to arguments for egalitarianism, community and
social responsibility.
You're to be an economist spinning the prayer wheels of academe for
enlightenment, and, finally, compassion.
peace,
boddhisatva
p.s. - The four noble truths - eluded to above - may be out of order, and are
certainly bent ever so slightly. Criticism welcomed with beatific
forbearance.
