To whom....,
Aaah, now we see wherefrom springs the Proyect belief in the power of
mind over markets. Our Comrade is a technocrat!
Well, now that the slander is done with, I agree with Proyect's
dismissal of Nove's point about bureaucrats. The real reason that
bureaucracies exist is simple - power. Nothing about Central Planning
designs comforts me in that regard.
Mr. Proyect is also very right about the actual need for greater
accounting under capitalism. He also makes the important point that
information technology wipes out the "need" for all those vice- presidents
and assistant managers. In fact, this is an excellent argument against the
typical meritocracy claims of the managerial elite. In fact, the engineers,
(who don't even wear SUITS for god's sake) have better, simpler answers to
the technical problems of management than the MBA's do. That is why they
both despise and coopt them.
Never fear Comrade Proyect! The revolution will recognize your
superiority over the suits and probably preserve your illustrious brain like
Lenin's corpse. However, turn the big candlepower to this question: why
*central* control? If silicon makes information easy, why the need for
centralism? The Internet, it seems to me, is a good paradigm for the
syndicalist future.
