SLP
- Subject: SLP

The Guardian reports that the SLP is standing a candidate in the
Hemsworth byelection next month.
Its candidate is Brenda Nixon, a leading activist in Women Against
Pit Closures, and the election agent is Arthur Scargill.
The consitutuency is one where "the NUM is still an influential local
institution" ie where there used to be a pit, I assume.
"The contest ... will provide a crucial measure of whether Mr
Scargill's party can make a significant impact".
Under these circumstances socialists should support the SLP
campaign in any way they can. Socialists should argue the
case for a fight against the Tories here and now, and that
we will need to continue this fight against Blair in government.
Adam.
