This looks like an interesting post Gary -- I've only skimmed it so far.
Perhaps I will engage with the points on Poulantzas in it after I put in
the section of my report on "economism". One pedantic point: Poulantzas
was writing in 1970 (not 1975) -- the translation was 1974. Interestingly,
a second French edition appeared in 1975, which ommitted the section on
'The USSR and the Comintern' (which had strong Maoist overtones, drawing
heavily on the first two vols of Charles Bettelhiem's _Class Struggles in
the USSR_) and the analyses of Germany and Italy in Part VII (perhaps
because they simply restate what has been said in previous chapters? The
new edition was supposed to be a smaller one?).
