independence without independence from the Contract on America. He has not
shown that independence. He is serving his class inerests, as are Dole,
Clinton, Bo Gritz, the freshman Republicans and the others in the capitalist,
corporate-dominated two-party system--and that is why we need independent
political action of the working class and other progressive forces--to take
power form the two branches of one party of capitalism and spread it around a
bit, even in the structure of the capitalist system, to grant some reforms.
That true independence is necessary for this time of struggle todefeat the
Republicans' Contract on the People and to move forward from that defeat.
