Well, history tells us two things :

i)      trade unions, because they negotiate how labour is
        exploited, can never be removultionary institutions
        this side of a revolution.

ii)     Every attempt to set up "Red Unions" has been a complete
        failure ( the most recent example in Britain was the
        EPIU , a split from the electricians union ).
