            SUPPORT FREE FLOW OF INFORMATION
Although many of us know that the term "free flow of information"
when used by the US, France, Great Britain and other super-powers in
the world of capitalist information flow, is far from "free" and
aimed primarily at promoting their economic interests, we who really
believe that information should be free can do one small thing to
help promote it.

The rural community of Las Terazas, in the Sierra Rosario Mountain
Range of Pinar del Rio, Cuba, has just installed a micro-power radio
station. THis community, which for 27 years has been engaged in the
ecological project of re-foresting thousands of hectares of land
that was denuded by former French and Spanish planters, is
struggling to develop a sustainable economy through ecotourism, in a
way that is organized democratically and benefits the whole
community. Community radio can play a key part in this.  They will
be able to play their own music, report on local news and events,
have educational programs. For some of the rural campesinos in the
surrounding hills, this will be a way to break their isolation.

There's only one catch. The micropower transmitter is on fm, and
almost none of the local residents have FM radios.

For Americans, Canadians and others in the developed world, a small
fm radio costs almost nothing to buy and less to transport. So how
about organizing your next group to bring FM radios -- even tiny
portable transistors would help-- and batteries. If each person who
comes to Cuba in a solidarity or educational group brings just one
FM radio, the community will soon be able to listen to their own
radio programs.
