    MARSEILLE, France, Jan 9 (Reuter) - Striking transport
workers in the Mediterranean port of Marseille accepted an offer
by city transport officials on Tuesday and voted to end their
month-old stoppage which has crippled bus and metro services.
    Metro commuter rail services should be operating normally by
Wednesday morning after the strikers ratified an accord reached
during the night between unions and the transport system
management, city officials said.
    But it will take several days for buses to resume normal
service, they said. Fifty percent of city buses were expected to
be running on Wednesday.
    The agreement met strikers' demands that the salaries of
employees hired after 1993 be brought into line with those of
their more senior colleagues with more seniority. Newer
employees have been earning about 1,000 francs ($200) less than
their colleagues.
