I am interested to find out about these purges. If they did exist
perhaps a possible explanation is as follows:

The German movement was more or less decapitated after the death of
Luxemburg and Liebknecht. In other words, their leadership was both
new, young (?) and less experienced. The events in Germany 1921 were
a disaster and included complete switches in activity, all mistimed.
First reticence about the struggle, then when the social base had
disappeared, adventurism. I think maybe the party lost its bearings
and was not able to deal with it internally either. Would this make
sense?

Die deutsche Bewegung war mehr oder weiniger enthauptet nach dem Tod
von Luxembourg und Liebknecht. Anders gesagt: ihre Fuehrung war neu,
jung (?) und nicht so erfahren. Die Ereignisse in Deutschland 1921
waren ein Disaster, mit eingeschlossen waren totale Umkehrungen der
Aktivitaeten, alle zum falschen Zeitpunkt. Zuerst Zurueckhaltung
gegenueber dem Kampf, dann als das soziale Basis verschwunden war,
der Abenteuertum. Vielleicht hat die Partei ihren Griff verloren und
konnte das auch nicht intern verarbeiten. Macht das Sinn?
