Lisa wants to know "what do [I] base this claim upon?" Which claim:
that patterns etc "obviously affect human life" or that "those patterns
do not necessarily tell us"?tc"?

The first "claim" is based on trust in Lisa as an anthropologist. If
she thinks those patterns are important in foraging groups, I am willing
to take her word for it.

The second claim is based on my interest in capitalism (that is my
interest in understanding it and hence contributing to its destruction). And
in reference to capitalism, I wish to hold fast to the identity, capitalism
is capitalism, as being a non-trivial tautology.

The relations of production in 1810 and the relations of production
in 1995 are *capitalist* relations of production. (I use relations of
production and social relations more or less interchangeably.)

This is getting beyond a merely minor clearing up of terminology--so
I better stop for now. More on some later occasion after I've seen other
responses and thought it over a bit.
