Happy Solstice + Answer to 2nd Quiz

On the assumption that the day is well under way in Australia, I shall
wish everybody a Happy Solstice, and reveal, (interesting that Gary is
reading his secret speech at the moment) that the answer to my second festive
quiz, about the Stalinist toady in 1939, is none other than little
Nikita himself.

Chris B, London.

On the assumption that tyrants are partly tyrants because others act in such
a way as to want them to be tyrants and to make them tyrants; which odious,
unspeakable toady discussed Stalin in the following manner in March 1939?

[If I say the question is a trick question it will not take long for one of you
to guess the answer. 4 days to the solstice - 21st December - is quite
sufficient]

"Comrades, we have heard at our Eighteenth Party Congress a report of struggle
for communism, the struggle of our workers, peasants and inellectuals, of all
the
working people of our Soviet land, led by our Party and its Stalinist Central
Committee, directed by the genius of our great guide and leader, Comrade
Stalin." {Storm of applause, breaking into an ovation. All rise.}

The speech ended with similar drama:

"Comrades, The Eighteenth Party Congress, the historic precepts of our
great Stalin, arm the people of the Soviet Union, arm the working people of the
whole world, with a mighty weapon in the struggle for communism. Comrade
Stalin's doctrine of the socialist state in a capitalist encirclement, the
profound new ideas that Comrade Stalin's report has introduced into the
question of the Soviet inelligentsia, are a great contribution to the
treasure store of Marxism-Leninism, and mark a *higher stage* in the development
of Leninism.

Long live the friendship of the peoples of the great Soviet Union!
{Thunderous applause.}

Long live the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the party of the Bolsheviks,
the leader and organizer of socialist victory! {Applause.}

Long live the towering genius of all humanity, the teacher and guide who
is leading us victoriously to communism, our beloved Comrade Stalin!"

{Ovation. All rise. Loud cheers of 'Long live our great Stalin'.}
