A little bit more internationalism
Bourdin has concisely drawn attention to the technical problems
of the bit codes and how the imperialist relations of production
are interwoven with the material means of production in the ASCII,
the American Standard Code for International Interchange, and its
related conventions.
Non-German speakers may not be aware, but one solution used in the last
few weeks on the list deals with the umlaut in German by the convention
of adding an 'e' after the vowel.
So "bu:rgertum" (bourgeoisie, citizenry) is "buergertum".
"sa:uberungen" (purges) is "saeuberungen"
If this is OK by German subscribers I think it is preferable to having
=E4 or =E9 suddenly popping up in the word. And a small price to pay
for the opportunity to be in communication with the interesting world
of German marxism.
It is is a little bit more difficult for faltering students like myself
but OK once you remember to look up in the correct part of the dictionary.
