I know next to nothing about the technical issues. Nevertheless,
in the spirit of internationalism, let me say that both of your messages
were readable. The 7-bit version, without special characters, caused a few
problems where accents were missing, but nothing serious. The 8-bit version
was readable only after I ran a macro on my word processor to transform the
codes into the proper characters. On balance I prefer the 7-bit version,
since it's faster.
