Lisa's Anthro

Lisa, just wondering--are you familiar with the work of Bronislaw
Malinowski, who studied the people of the Trobriand Islands, east of New
Guinea, back in the 1930s? Wilhelm Reich drew upon Malinowski's work in
*Der Einbruch der sexual-moral* ("The Invasion of Compulsory Sex
Morality"), written in 1935. Here is demonstrated how economic
interests--accumulation of wealth within a small group (though not yet a
class)--determined the extent of sexual taboos. Throughout the society as
a whole (a matrinilear society), sexual freedom was widespread among the
young, and there was an absence of the "neuroses" and repression common
to Western civilization.
