Re: C of C, Solidarity, DSA
As far as I know. no formal relationship at all. I was a member of DSA
in NYC from 1971-77 or thereabouts and found all of the energy
concentrated on self-criticism of self-perceived Stalinist tendencies of
the self. I would guess, from knowing some of the people involved, that
there is some overlap at the top between CoC and DSA. Aside from the
total lack of action, one of the most disappointing aspects was the
general feeling that questions like "What do we mean by 'democracy'?'"
"Could we have more of it in the USA?" "What infant program might we
start to get more of it?" were thought to lead right to Leninism, and
from there to Stalinism, and from there to the slaughter of billions and
billions (apologies to Carl Sagan), so operationally, they never moved
beyond the center-right of the left of the Democratic party. Of course,
that position on the USA political spectrum now makes them
foaming-at-the-mouth-blood-thirsty-commies.
BTW, Father RPB, I neglected to mention, in the list of personal
stressors that I sent you privately, that my sister-in-law went blind
from MS. My current situation reminds me of an Appalachian family that
appeared regularly in night court on the later episodes of "Night
Court", each time with an even more improbably and heart-rending tale of
epic woe. In one episode, the judge asked the little girl, "Didn't you
ever get any toys for Christmas?" and she replied, "Well, I got a marble
once't, but then grandma wanted her eye back..."
Regards...
Charlie
