Dwight Macdonald & trotskyism
- Subject: Dwight Macdonald & trotskyism

Ralph inquires about Autonomedia's reprint of Macdonald's *The Root Is Man*.
Yes, it came out earlier this year. Maybe the distribution in Washington
is poor, I don't know. You can always order it from Brooklyn ($7.00),
although perhaps you had in mind only to peruse it in the store.
Another Autonomedia book of similar interest would be *Trotskyism and
Maoism: Theory and Practice in France and the United States* by A. Belden
Fields (1988, $12.00). It seems like a thorough treatment, but here's a
note of warning about this book: it is horribly chock-full of typos. I
don't think it was proofread at all (hey, it was published before I
signed on as first mate on Autonomedia's drunken boat and started
cracking the whip about that sort of thing, since it's what I do for a
living).
No dead Trotsky jokes, however. Ralph will have to write that book.
Happy Beethoven's birthday,
