Dec '95

Just in case any of you were wondering if there was any D&G breath in the
current 'troubles' in France... Probably not a whole lot (but I don't
really know), but at Jussieu (Universite de Paris VII) yesterday I saw this
printed text stuck to a window:
ils ont robocop
nous avons la colere
ils ont des bunkers
nous avons la rue
ils ont des technocrates
nous avons les trains
ils ont des experts
nous avons les centrales electriques
ils ont des decideurs
nous avons les machines
ils ont le mensonge
nous avons le scandale
ils ont l'argent
nous avons la dignite
ils ont le pouvoir
nous avons l'energie
ils ont l'economie
nous avons la communaute
ils restent de glace
et nous on leur met de feu
ils sont une puissance abstraite
NOUS SOMMES LA SOCIETE
i.e.:
they have robocop
we have anger
they have bunkers
we have the street
they have technocrats
we have the trains
they have experts
we have the power plants
they have decision-makers
we have the machines
they have lies
we have scandal
they have the money
we have the dignity
they have the power
we have energy
they have the economy
we have the community
they remain icy
and we put fire under them
they are an abstract potential
WE ARE THE SOCIETY
I mean, it's got all the drawbacks of rallying crys (tendency to create a
counter common sense - 'us'), and it's a kind of mix of D&G notes and more
strightforward marxism, but I thought it might be of interest.
There's also some graffitti at Jussieu: DELEUZE EST MORT, TOUT EST PERMIS
(Deleuze is dead, everything is permitted), which could mean any number of
things...
