Unity and division

Kevin asked, "How long can the divided left continue?"

In the Manifesto Marx and Engels described quite an
array of possibly "divided" groups. Why should divided
groups be unstable? Could it not be like an
eco system with different groups occupying different niches?

And do you want unity, or unanimity?
