Well the idea of a "real party" will probably open up several threads on
this list. But I will try to respond to your questions on a purely
factual level.
The successors to the old CP, including a number of splinters, have
retained a formal organisation and structure that covers the whole of
Russia. No other party has anything remotely like the same level and
weight of organisation. I am told that Zhirinovsky has pretty much given
up on trying to build a network of branches of paid up supporters.
Most of the serious non-CP parties seem to be financed by big business
and so do not need a large individual membership to campaign for them.
The election campaigns are conducted and delivered through the media
rather than by canvassing and mass leafletting.
A few days ago I posted a piece by Alexei Gusev analysing the election
campaigns, did you see it ? You can also get a lot of current information
from OMRI and VOA.
