Dear Scott and all,

I sincerely apologize.
You are right that I had completely forgotten about the previous
marxian-sports thread.  I am the one with foot-in-mouth disease this
time.  I remembered it during my insomniac wee hours, but it was too
late to save my em-bar-ass-ment.

For the newbies, my version is that there had been several posts full
of sports chat without any reference or relation to list-topic.
Therefore I objected to the thread as off-topic.

[Of course, I did get slapped around some at that time because of my
red lemmings, so it's not _all_ one direction.]

But issues of public ownership and such do seem to relate to the
list, to me.

I know I've been more over-the-top than usual lately, but in addition
to it's sharp point, I also had my tongue in cheek a bit. #:)

It's not about which sport is the topic.  And it's not just you,
Scott, although you are very good, you are not the best whipping boy
around here, sorry.

Heck.  Now that Louis has revealed all and sworn off his evil-stern
persona, Ralph has posted some nonflammatory and substantive stuff,
and JimJaz posted a whole paragraph in one post, all in the same
week, I guess I have to chill myself, too.

Consider it done.

BTW, I just caught up on some reading of the list, such as Utica's
farewell.  I'd say there are some good points in there.  Given some
of the recent developments in self-moderation, perhaps we will be
looking and acting more reasonable the next time somebody walks in
the door.

p.s. Scott, I hope you're not too serious about trying to please my
preferences!

and to David:  Yes, sometimes the observable gender difference in
sports interest is emphasized into a kind of irritating standing joke
here.  Shops run adverts about sales for temporary "basketball
widows" during the playoffs, clubs have male strippers for
"deerhunter's widows" night and other such nonsense.  Plus, monied
and management types play golf and do deals in social clubs that are
still allowed to exclude women, so there are indeed a few real issues
around gender/sports.  lr
