Louis:
------
I HAVE BEEN DRINKING BOILER-MAKERS FOR
DAYS NOW (WHISKEY WASHED DOWN WITH A GLASS OF BEER) SO I THOUGHT IT
MIGHT
HAVE BEEN MY IMAGINATION, LIKE THOSE SPIDERS I KEEP WIPING OFF OF MY
FACE. BUT IT DOES APPEAR THAT THE MAIL IS FUCKED-UP. I WILL RE-POST MY
BOGDANOV PIECE AND LAY OFF THE BOOZE FOR A WEEK OR SO.
Chris:

I am worried reading this.
Are you telling the list something here, Louis or not? I raise the point
because you *seemed* to be very angry with Jerry a fortnight ago when he said:
("seemed" because I am never quite sure, and I am not sure whether you
are sure ) -

Louis: How dare you? I've been keeping my looniness a complete secret and
you have the nerve to spill the beans to the list.
<<<<<<
The previous day 18th Nov you had said on the list, "of course, I
have other problems that I am working through with Dr. Chris Burford and
guarantee that I will a be a much kinder and gentler person some day."
I think you are somewhat kinder already, working through your own efforts
(nothing to do with me).
And in one sense I think you are speaking for the whole list, about the
problems of keeping one's own bearings (I almost wrote beerings!). But
I have to say that it feels like you are skating on thin ice here from
your own point of view as well as the rest of the list.
Irritability can be easily taken as contempt. And the exchanges on
the weekend of Sat 18th Sun 19th between you and Jerry escalated very rapidly.
Probably Jerry should have
shrugged it off, and as it happens I found the idea of discussing
Wittgenstein dry, but perhaps that could have been tested out as it
was with Spinoza.
Jerry has to take responsibility for leaving the list and it may have been a
good decision for him, certainly at the time, to do other things.
But there will be other subscribers and other situations, and I am
not sure what you are telling the list about your situation now, Louis,
and I really think it is less complicated not to ask you in private.
It is partly concern about what you have called on the list, your erratic
style of "drunken Tai Chi boxer" and the confusions it can cause. It is
partly your hostility to professors as a whole.
But you are free to tell me to take a running jump, or to ignore me.
Take care, as Jon would say.
Chris, ("Rationally Disturbed Person")
