The recent spate of quoted poems was pleasing--most I had not read
for many years or even decades, and they still create a bang for me.

BUT....BUT....BUT....BUT

I'm entering matters now that I have been struggling with for
several decades, and I'm still not sure in my own mind, so perha
perhaps I can put the correct exploratory or speculative spin on it by
casting it in a partially autobiographical context.

Taking, in round numbers, 15 as the age at which I began
struggling to achieve a "literary education," and 40 as the age at which
I began struggling to achieve a Marxist world view, I had spent a qua
quarter century mastering what might be called a "bourgeois-classic"
decorum--and once such a decorum has been mastered, it sticks with one,
however one might abstractly judge it later. (This is why I'm thankful
to be an atheist by birthright; I feel reall pity for those who had to
fight off an early religious faith--and also suspicion, for that
religious training is all too apt to infect their Marxism in various
