Sunday's New York Times Week in Review includes two interesting articles
(and it's rare that "New York Times" and "interesting" occur in the same
sentence without the interposition of a negative) on the Million Man March
and the Nation of Islam.

Michael Marriot's piece on p. 5 cites a survey jointly done jointly by
three Howard University political scientists and market researchers the
Wellington Group of Oaklyn, New Jersey, that reports march attendees to
have been significantly more upscale than the general black population. 38%
of 1,050 men surveyed had four or more years of college, compared with 13%
of all African-American men. 77% of the marchers earned $25,000 or more,
with 41% over $50,000. This compares with median black male incomes of
$18,500 in 1992, and $15,300 for women. The margin of error was +/- 3
percentage points.

Several pages later, a piece by Erik Ness quotes the NOI and various
far-right white groups (Christian Identity, the National Alliance, the Ku
Klux Klan) on various issues, including race separation, race mixing,
globalization, chosenness as people, sex and morals, etc. Aside from a few
instances where the colors vary, the rhetoric is almost indistinguishable.
Ness got the words from the organizations' web sites. For the curious,
here are their URLs:
