Re: marxism-digest V2 #94

Why does the ultra left in Canada somehow view basic social services
like free health care, unemployment insurance, subsidized higher
education, etc etc. that was won through progressive political action
a generation ago which does not exist in the USA to be somehow
irrelevant. We only need to look south to see what will be our
destiny if English Canada slides into political union with the USA
after Quebec independence. What relationship does the ultra left
have with the working class if they can make remarks like this?
Obviously, no relationship at all.

No one is denying Quebec the right to self- determination. The
existence of the referendum should be proof of this. There is too
much at stake though to leave the stage to the status quo federalist
and the "independantistes." A new, democratic constitution and a
Constituent Assembly would be the first step in ensuring that Canada
remains united, and at the same time, native and Quebecois interests
would be respected.
