Enterprise zones/MMM
- Subject: Enterprise zones/MMM

I used to work in a place where they had little memo pads which
said on top "Oral Communications Don't Go". I've now tracked
down the source of the rumor I mentioned yesterday that Jesse
Jackson endorsed enterprise zones at the Million Man March, and
it proves to be a typical product of oral tradition. Although he
is a firm supporter of black capitalism and has since the march
said that he would vote for Colin Powell for President, Jackson
did *not* endorse enterprise zones in his speech.
The source of the enterprise zones thing is, however, in a
statement of the march's goals:
"Petition the government that they should not cede manufacturing
to 'third world' countries but to the Black community for the
inner cities which are in third world condition. Therefore
manufacturing must be ceded to us."
This certainly implies enterprise zones, but doesn't directly
endorse them--although numerous Black capitalist politicians have
in fact endorsed them.
