Homophobia

------------------- HP follows --------------------
Welcome to the list, comrade Piranha.

In the absence of any cybersymbol for sincerity, let me just say I really mean
that, "straight" up,
[as opposed to the inversion or overstatement of irony or sarcasm which I am
occasionally known
to use].

I believe that gay-bashing is intolerable on this list. [I also find it
intolerable anywhere.] It is
certainly contrary to non-editorial policy, and I expect it will be subject to
vociferous
condemnation from several post-ers, including myself, if it is detected among
us. It should be
eradicated along with racism, male supremacy, and various other disfiguring
"diseases".

Of course, since there is no editorial control/ pre-screening/ censorship, and
the list is open,
anybody can say anything, and the only thing that can be done about it is for
others to say more,
to speak up and speak differently. So thank you very much for not just
unsubbing, and I'm glad
you spoke up. Yes, the list is sometimes a site of struggle, but it is one of
the likelier places to
find support for the struggle, nonetheless. Revolution within the revolution
may well be needed,
and there may also be no better place to start.

BTW, I believe that Ralph et.al. had no homophobic intent or awareness in the
exchange you
mention. (I think it could even be read in another way.) Seriously, I trust
Ralph behind me in
the trenches ahead of some other post-ers I can think of. At the same time, I
have met and
talked with some comrades here who were positively appreciative when I
explained to them that
what they were saying, concept, phrase or vocab., had sexist assumptions or
implications. "I just
hadn't thought about it that way before, thanks" is one of the responses I
enjoyed the most.
[Although it has not been universal.]

At the risk of revealing my profound ignorance on this topic, may I ask you to
assist my
awareness, what exactly is it that you see as homophobic in such talk? I don't
like the violence
implied, myself, I prefer a literally vomitous imagery, when I use imagery of
r/ejection regarding
a person, post or position. (It does seem to be less controversial than sexual
or anal imagery,
but that's not why I prefer it.)

Lisa Rogers
comradely communications welcome
