Paul 15th Aug:

I too think that the key to further advance is to use
Mao's phrase 'unite all who can be united against the
main enemy'.

The call of a united front against the rentiers implies
that one could utilise contradictions within the bourgeoisie.
I think that this may be possible, but in putting forward
this line, we are bound to be criticised for united frontism
and reformism.

Chris B:
--------

I buy this.

I think it could be an operational agenda relevant on several
levels, within countries, within economic unions like the EU, and
on a world scale.

The target could in certain circumstances be enlarged to include
the landed class, ie to restrict the private ownership of land.
Done step by step, this would not excite the opposition of the great
majority of the population and would be in harmony with growing
ecological concerns.

The essence of the strategic challenge, is that we are not strong enough
to cope with a strategy abolishing commodity exchange and the resulting
accumulation of capital, but we could control the rentier and the
landed interests.

I could live with the charge of reformism. a) critics would have to
show they have a more revolutionary strategy that could change the world
b) no serious marxist objects to struggling for reforms - the question is
whether you do it in such a way as to prettify the ruling class or to
strengthen the confidence of working people.
