Hiroshima Day in Australia

Demonstrations were held on Hiroshima Day in every major city of
Australia over the weekend, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima, and to protest French nuclear
testing in the South Pacific.

Early unconfirmed reports give the turnouts as follows: 20,000 in
Sydney, 20,000 in Melbourne, 6,000 in Perth, 3,000 in Adelaide,
2,000 in Canberra.  Demonstrations were also held in Wollongong,
Newcastle, Brisbane, Darwin and Hobart.

The next demonstrations in the popular campaign against French
nuclear testing will be held in Sydney and elsewhere on September
2nd.
